The Thayer Bobcats travel to Salem, Missouri Friday night Sept. 8 where they will be playing the Salem Tigers. The Bobcats are coming off of a huge win last Friday, a game that brought them to a record of 2-1 on the season. They beat the Liberty Eagles, a team that had bested Thayer for years. “The game hopefully gave our guys some confidence to be able to compete against each team we play every week. We beat a quality team in Liberty, even though their record might not show it, Liberty is a very good team and it was a very good win,” said Coach Billy Webber about the game last Friday.

The game this Friday has Thayer, the smallest school in the SCA, against Salem, the largest school in the SCA. “Last week, it was really a team effort. The whole team did things good for us in order to get that win, so we are going to need that again this week,” Coach Webber said.  Thayer beat Salem at home last year, but this year it is a different story. The Bobcats travel to Salem this year, which is a very long bus ride for the team. But the last time Thayer went to Salem, the Bobcats defeated them.

“To win this week, we are going to need physical play. They are really big up front offensively, with very big linemen. We will have to use our quickness, so we will have to out-quick and maybe even out-smart them a little bit,” Webber said. Thayer played very physical last week, and was able to come out on top, so look for more of that this week. Also, against Liberty, Garret Young ran for 200 plus yards in the first half alone, so look for Thayer to utilize him more at the running back position.

It is bound to be a great game, and hopefully will be a great win for the Thayer Bobcats. Thayer has the confidence, coming off a great win last Friday, so we will see what kind of show they can put on for us. If you want to make the drive up there to support the Bobcats in person, the game starts at 7 p.m. at Salem High School. If not, Mike Crase will be broadcasting live on K-Kountry 95, giving the fans the play by play.
