“Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat” is an event held in October every year by FBLA and FCCLA. “FBLA has been doing this for about sixteen years now, and we later joined with FCCLA to get more help and more cans”, said Mrs. Nikki Cunningham, the sponsor of FBLA. Members of each club come together in costumes of their own and go door-to-door for non-perishable food items that are donated to the local food pantry. “We always donate all of our cans we collect to the Oregon County Food pantry”, said Cunningham. It’s a fun activity that’s great for helping out the community and getting kids out of their houses. “It is something I always look forward to doing with FCCLA and FBLA. I think it is great teaching high schoolers the importance of caring for our community”, said Madison Deree, the FCCLA President.

Members met up in the high school cafeteria at 5 p.m. on October 19th, to find their trick-or-treating groups and collect pictures in their costumes. Each group received a map of the neighborhood they were assigned. Some groups walked and others drove. The quest for canned goods and other non-perishable food lasted for two hours.

The students met back at the high school at 7 p.m.. After dropping off the cans in Mrs. Shelley Underwood’s room, the FCCLA sponsor, they all gathered back into the cafeteria for food and games. The festivities lasted until 9:00. Everyone went home happy and full. This year’s Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat was a success yet again. “This year, we have a whole truck full of cans and they’re still coming in. This year was definitely successful and I’m happy to say we got enough cans to make a big difference in our community”, said Mrs. Cunningham.
