The Thayer Basketball teams are back in action now, as the boys and girls both won their first games of the year. The Lady Cats beat Izard County Consolidated 75-34 at Viola High School, and the boys defeated Class 3 Doniphan by a score of 49-35 at Van Buren High School.

On the boys’ side of things, Ayden Stone had a monster opening night, where he scored 22 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, 14 of which were offensive rebounds. The game was close, and Doniphan cut an 11 point lead down to 2 in the third quarter, but the Bobcats were able to hold off the third quarter run and forced the Doniphan Dons to foul late in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats sank their free-throws down the stretch and won the game by 14 points.

The girls, on the other hand, were able to blow out a very good ICC team on Friday, November 24. ICC is from Izard County, Arkansas, where they have been playing basketball games for a month now. The Lady Cats, although it being their first game, used their experience and skill to blow the Cougars out of the water by 41 points.

Both girls and boys basketball teams would love your support, so try to make it to as many games as possible. Both teams are state ranked to start the season, so this could be a very exciting year for Bobcat Basketball.

Enjoy watching these groups, think they’ll do big things this year. Best of luck, we’ll be watching!

Both squads have excellent coaches and great kids (on & off the court)! If they continue working hard, being coachable, and playing together the “sky is the limit” on what they can accomplish!
