The Thayer basketball teams have been dominating the area’s basketball, with the girls’ record at 12-0 and the boys’ record at 13-2. The teams are carrying the success they experienced last season into this season, as they have the same record as last season at this point.

For the boys team, Thayer is being led by Ayden Stone, who is averaging 11 points and 10 rebounds a game. For the girls team, it is Ayden’s twin sister Julie that is dominating. She is the reigning SCA Player of the Year, and is on track to take that title again.

The Thayer varsity boys are ranked number 7 in class 2 basketball, and the Thayer girls are ranked number 2 in class 2.

“As the season goes along, we keep getting better and better as a team, so hopefully we can win down the stretch,” said April Earls, senior guard for the Thayer Lady Bobcats.

The girls team lost in the district championship last year, so this year they are putting that behind them and are working to get the title that they feel they let slip away last year.

For the boys, they are looking to continue their winning into SCA competition and into the district tournament. Last year, the boys placed second in the conference behind Mountain Grove, and also won the district championship. This season, their two losses have come from class 1 powerhouse Eminence. In the first game against Eminence, the Bobcats fell in double overtime. In the second competition, Eminence beat Thayer on a last second shot in overtime to win by two points.

The boys team starts the Liberty tournament next week, and if both teams continue to win, Eminence and Thayer will meet again in the championship on Saturday, January 20.

The Thayer basketball teams are doing nothing different what has been done in the past, and the two teams have continued the winning tradition up to this point. Hopefully the two teams can continue to win, and compete in the state playoffs for a state championship. Only time will tell, so keep watching and supporting your Thayer Bobcat basketball teams.
